The Virunga mountains range consists of 8 major mountains that are found exclusively within the boundaries of three national parks: Mgahinga National Park in Uganda, Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, and Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). six of these mountains are dormant volcanoes and two of them still active. All three mountains in Uganda's Mgahinga National Park—Mount Gahinga, Mount Muhabura, and Mount Sabinyo—are dormant. The Virunga mountain range and Bwindi impenetrable National park are also the only places in the world that host the endagered mountain gorilla. This 6 day safari offers adveturous challenging hikes of all the three Virunga mountains in Mganhinga National Park as well as an unforgettable gorilla trekking experience.

Day 1
Arrival and Transfer to Kisoro via Equator crossing
ENTEBBE - KISORO
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by your Toturk Safaris guide and transferred to Kisoro. This scenic drive to Kisoro takes about 9-10 hours and allows you to enjoy the beautiful Ugandan countryside. Enroute make a brief stop at the Uganda Equator crossing in Kayabwe, which is about a 2-hour drive from Entebbe for some memorable pictures. Stop for lunch at a local restaurant. Once you arrive in Kisoro, check into your lodge near Mgahinga National Park, have dinner, relax and prepare for the exciting adventure ahead.

Gorilla Trekking
MGAHINGA NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast at the lodge, you'll set out for gorilla trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. This unforgettable experience involves hiking through dense forests to find and observe a family of mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. The trek can be challenging, but the reward of spending time with these magnificent creatures is worth the effort. After the trek, you'll return to the lodge for lunch and some relaxation time. The evening will be spent enjoying dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge. All meals, entrance fees, and accommodations are included.

Hike Mount Sabinyo (3,669 meters)
MGAHINGA NATIONAL PARK
Have breakfast and then, set out for the hike up Mount Sabinyo. Sabinyo is a local word which means old man's tooth and Mt Sabinyo was named so because its summit looks like an old man's worn out teetth. Mount Sabinyo is the oldest volcano of all the ranges. The trail to its summit involves some steep ascents and descents that gives it the longest hike time of about 8-9hrs compared to the 3 mointain2 . At the summit, you can stand in three countries simultaneously: Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. After enjoying the unique experience and the views, you'll return to the lodge in the afternoon. Dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge will complete your day. All meals, entrance fees, and accommodations are included.

Hike Mount Muhabura (4,127 meters)
MGAHINGA NATIONAL PARK
Have an early breakfast and prepare for a challenging hike up Mount Muhabura , also known as "The Guide." The name Muhabura / muhavura is a word from a local language spoken in the area to mean “the guide” and this is majorly because it stood out from other Mountains and is what travellers followed as a guide.
Mt Muhabura is the third highest of the eight major mountains of the Virungas Mountain Range and the highest peak on the ugandan virunga Mountain range region. It has a tenacious terrain and takes about 8-10 hrs to ascend and descend, so it requires some one with hiking experience. It offers breathtaking views of the other Virunga Volcanoes mountains, Lake Edward, and the Rwenzori Mountains. Just like Gahinga, its also has a carter lake at the peak. After reaching the summit and capturing some memorable photos, you'll descend back for dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.

Hike Mount Gahinga (3,474 meters)
MGAHINGA NATIONAL PARK
Enjoy breakfast at the lodge before beginning your hike up Mount Gahinga. The trail ascends through beautiful bamboo forests and continues to the summit, offering stunning views along the way. Mt Gahinga has a swampy caldera at the peak that’s about 180cm wide. After reaching the summit and taking in the panoramic scenery, you'll descend back to the lodge in the afternoon. It takes about 6-8 hrs to descend and ascend and ascend Mt Gahinga Dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge will follow. All meals, entrance fees, and accommodations are included.

KISORO-ENTEBBE
